We made it, guys—the trashfire that was 2020 has finally come to an end. And what better way to end the year than with the Hilary/Hilaria Baldwin scandal, which keeps on getting better and better? Honestly, it’s a gift.
The situation isn’t the only piece of pop culture I was into this past week—I also watched and loved Steven Soderbergh’s Let Them All Talk, watched and liked Tenet, watched and was so-so about Soul, and started reading an excellent new book, Gabriel Bump’s Everywhere You Don’t Belong.
But since it’s the end of the year, I’m dedicating this week’s edition of Did I Tell You About… to a rundown of the movies, shows, books, and music I loved most in 2020. Feel free to share your own favorites with me, too!
In 2020, I loved…
These movies: Eurovision Song Contest; Promising Young Woman; Unpregnant; The Trial of the Chicago 7; Palm Springs
These books: The Vanishing Half; The Lying Life of Adults; Transcendent Kingdom; Dear Edward; Wow, No Thank You; All Adults Here; Topics of Conversation; The Knockout Queen; Big Summer
These TV shows: I May Destroy You; Mrs. America; The Queen’s Gambit; The Boys; The Crown; Pen15; Dead to Me; Cheer; What We Do in the Shadows; Schitt’s Creek
These albums: Taylor Swift’s Folklore and Evermore; Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia; Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher; Halsey’s Manic; Selena Gomez’s Rare
There’s a lot I still want to catch up on from this year, from movies like The Midnight Sky and The Assistant to TV shows like Grand Army and I’ll Be Gone in the Dark. But all in all, I think I consumed some pretty great pop culture in 2020, all of which helped me a shit year a little bit better.
Hope everyone has a great New Year! See you in 2021,
Rachel
