Hi, friends! Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, however you made it work this year. We spent yesterday making a buffet-for-two filled with a mix of fresh produce and meats, frozen apps, and a disturbingly large amount of bread and dessert. We FaceTimed family, watched the lovely Happiest Season, and went to bed at 10 while recovering from our food comas. It was perfect.
And now, it’s the weekend! Which means it’s time for another installment of Did I Tell You About… featuring all the pop culture recs you need for the coming days. Enjoy!
I’m reading: The Knockout Queen by Rufi Thorpe. This novel came out back in April to great reviews, and I’m so glad I decided to give it a read. It’s about the friendship between two very different teens growing up in an L.A. suburb, and so far, it’s smart, funny, dark, and totally captivating.
I’m listening to: All the new versions of Taylor Swift’s Folklore songs released as part of her Long Pond Studio Sessions. I don’t have Disney+ so I sadly haven’t seen the full documentary, but I’m very thankful that all the songs are uploaded on Youtube so I can enjoy these gorgeous live versions regardless. This album just keeps getting better.
I’m obsessed with: This New York Times ranking of the greatest actors of the 21st century so far. I don’t agree with all the choices (justice for Michelle Williams, please!), but I looove that it includes Saoirse Ronan and Viola Davis, among others, and it’s a beautifully-designed list designed to be argued with.
I’m watching: Run on Hulu. Was this thriller, about a mom (Sarah Paulson) caring for her sick daughter (Kiera Allen), absolutely over-the-top and campy? Yup. Was it still highly entertaining? Absolutely. Give it a watch if you need some good distractions!
I’m still thinking about: This lovely look back at the making and legacy of Gilmore Girls, featuring interviews with the cast and crew, that just ran in the NYT. Stars Hollow forever.
I’m excited about: The upcoming release of Mank on Netflix. This biographical drama doesn’t sound like my cup of tea on paper (I really could not care less about Orson Welles and Citizen Kane—sorry!), but reviews are super strong, and I do love me some David Fincher-directed drama. It’s out Dec. 4, and I’ll be watching.
Happy watching/reading/listening, everyone! See you next week for more.
