Happy almost-weekend, folks! November is flying by—I truly can’t believe Thanksgiving is next week. At the same time, the election feels like 948594 years ago, right? Seriously, nothing makes sense. But that’s 2020 for ya!
As the year winds down, a lot of pop culture is coming our way, from movies that were supposed to hit theaters but are streaming instead (looking at you, Wonder Woman 1984) to TV shows that thankfully filmed pre-pandemic. Need some recs? Read on for this week’s edition of Did I Tell You About… below:
I’m watching: The Crown Season 4. Some of you might’ve already finished the season, which, if so, is good for you, but I’m taking my sweet time and loving it. The show has always been great, but this season is superb—and not just because of the spot-on casting of Princess Diana (seriously, it’s uncanny!). As someone who’s only moderately interested in the royals, I’m learning a ton of British history this season that I never knew before, while also getting to swoon over the outfits and hear Gillian Anderson’s insane Margaret Thatcher voice. The Crown has it all.
I’m listening to: “Prisoner” by Miley Cyrus, feat. Dua Lipa. Miley’s album comes out in a week, and this single, which dropped today, is a very good sign for what’s to come. Miley and Dua are a pop star combo that truly work.
I’m still thinking about: This GQ profile of George Clooney, not to mention the photoshoot that came along with it. It’s a great interview, with George opening up about everything from parenthood to BLM to that time he gave 14 friends a million dollars each (!). And did I mention the photos? They’re gooood.
I’m obsessed with: This NYT story on Deuxmoi, the celeb gossip Instagram account that has over 400k followers and is full of tea on every star from Chrissy Teigen to Jake Gyllenhaal. Like so many others, I check Deuxmoi’s posts daily, because there’s something addictive about reading even the most mundane stories about A-list celebrities. This feature dives into the behind-the-scenes of the account, and it’s worth a read.
I’m looking forward to: Happiest Season, the holiday rom-com coming to Hulu next Wednesday. Not only is it the rare rom-com (and movie in general, TBH) to focus on an LGBTQ couple, but the cast is stacked: Kristen Stewart, Dan Levy, Alison Brie, and more. I can’t wait to see this one.
I’m reading: Barack Obama’s memoir, Promised Land. Eventually. Because I am #36 on the waiting list at my library. It’s like he’s popular or something?
That’s all for now! Heads up that next week’s newsletter will come on Friday, as Thursday is Thanksgiving and we’ll all be too busy having sad, tiny pandemic meals. 2020, y’all. It’s been a time.
Until then,
Rachel
